Transparent and Accountable Government.

August 4, 2010

accountability Transparency is essential to the democratic process. New Yorkers need to be kept informed of the deliberations and decisions made by the legislature. To protect the rights of New Yorkers there must be openness and communication with their representatives. Transparency rules make it more difficult for abuses of the system and misuse of tax payer money.

Open discourse between “we the people” and our elected representatives improves government and society, with that in mind we need to be sure that government is providing the people complete data on all of its activities that is public and not subject to privacy, security or privilege limitations. The data should be unabridged with no redaction and provided to the public in a timely fashion. The data should be easily accessible to the people and non-discriminatory and non-proprietary. (We the people own the government, therefore we own the data.)
